Autumn 1 Learning

English

This term, our class have focused on simple, compound and complex sentences. We have done this through our book: Henry's Freedom Box.

In reading we are developing our full range of comprehension skills, ensuring we are using evidence from the text to answer questions effectively and learning to skim and scan to find evidence within the text quickly.

Maths

This term we are focusing on place value. Every Friday, we will be completing our arithmetic  lessons. The children will be tested on their arithmetic skills every other Friday.

Science

This term we are studying Properties and Materials, learning the differences between hardness, magnetism and transparency. Within this, we will be completing investigations, such as, what technique would you use to separate pasta and sand?

History

We are learning about The Tudors, with a focus on his wives, the type of person he was, what it was like to be a poor Tudor and what it was like to be a rich Tudor.

R.E

This term we are focusing on God as the Creator, focusing on describing the difference between scientific and theological truths and expressing our own views on this. In addition to this, we are understanding the links between St. Francis and us being stewards of the earth.

PSHCE

We are looking at Being me in My world, focusing on the year ahead and our ambitions for the future.

P.E

This term we are completing our topic of Balance and Stretching on a Tuesday and on a Wednesday.

Computing

We are continuing our work on exploring and using databases to sort data and answer questions effectively.

Please refer to the Y6 parent information sheet for more detail.
